A latest report by the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) and and the Internet & Mobile Association of India (MAI) claimed that there will be about 402 million internet users in India by the end of this year, which is a hike of 49% from last year. This number is just the one third of the total 1.2 billion populations India has. This leads to a great scope for further growth in the numbers of internet users in the country. With PM Narendra Modi’s vision for Digital India, this growth is expected to be rapid enough, and it won’t take long for India to beat China and become the country with highest number of internet users.
It has been noticed that men make up 71% of India’s online community, amazingly with 88% of users in rural areas and 62% of users in the urban areas. Not just this much, it has been observed that the new internet users this year consists more of women than men, i.e. 39 % of women to 28 % of men.
69% of the users’ access internet on a daily basis which is an increase of 60% compared to the previous years. India’s eight largest urban areas account for nearly one-third of web users, I.e. 31% of the users, although rural growth is faster compared to that of the cities.
Around 87% of the country’s web users access the internet through mobile devices, however it is not clear how many of these were exclusive mobile data users.
This is indeed good news for the online gaming industry and the online poker in India. With the rapid growth of internet users in the country, it won’t take long for the poker sites in India to double up their revenues soon through online poker games.
